Ravichandran Ashwin was engaged in another ‘mankading’ incident which took place during Rajasthan Royals’ first IPL 2023 encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Adil Rashid was at the non-striker’s end as Ashwin ran in to bowl to Abdul Samad, he appeared to stopped midway and try to get Rashid out. However, after stopping him, the umpire signalled a dead ball.
It’s unclear why the umpire stopped Ashwin or what he told him. It also appeared that the batter was safe, so Adil would have survived even if he had removed the bails.
Ashwin has always been in favour of the non-striker’s run-out.
Ashwin had done it when in the 2019 edition he ‘mankaded’ Jos Buttler while playing for Punjab Kings vs Rajasthan Royals.
As far as the current match goes, Rajasthan Royals crushed Sunrisers Hyderabad by 72 runs to start IPL 2023 on a good note.
